Yes — your sponsoring broker still needs to complete this form. It didn't go away, it just moved.
This form used to be required before you could test. WVREC changed the order: you can now sit for the Pearson VUE exam without it. But you'll still need it when it's time to activate your license, so don't skip lining it up just because testing didn't require it. You need it to activate the license which is just as important as testing!
Two deadlines to know:
You must activate your license within 90 days of passing the state exam, or you'll have to retest from scratch.
If you're activating as Active with a broker, this Verification of Employing Broker form is part of that paperwork.
The one way to skip this form entirely: activate your license as Inactive instead of Active. WVREC has confirmed directly with us that inactive status doesn't require a sponsoring broker or this form. Keep in mind this isn't written into their official rules — it's current Commission practice, not a codified policy, so it could change without notice. If you're relying on this route, it's worth a quick call to WVREC to confirm it's still the case. Either way, the same 90-day clock still applies — miss it, and you're back to retesting no matter which status you chose.
